Article: Who is an "adult"
Tanner Ph.D., J. (2010, March 3). Who is an "adult?" Retrieved March 13, 2015.
The article is saying that, their are two different ways in which you can become an adult. The first way would be an "adult is someone who-accepts responsibility, makes independent decisions, and becomes financially independent.". The first way they say you become an adult is through physical buys or responsibilities. However this is true but the mind is the true test of whether or not a person is an adult or not. The mind has a time of development, typically around the ages of 18-29 where the mind or the person doesn't feel like an adult or like an adolescent. Some psychologist call this emerging-adulthood. However, others call this just another stage of adolescence. The people that disagree with the emeriging-adulthood say that the person must fullfill the adultly things of career fullfillment, and economic stability of house buying and daily needs. The people of the emerging adulthood believe that adulthood comes with independency and saying that they run their own lives.
I believe that both of these sides are correct. To be an adult you must be independent and you must take over or be responsible for everying that you do. Being an adult isn't just an age it's a maturity thing and how well you can handle stress and being alone to handle everything that comes at you. I believe that the idea of emerging adulthood is more correct because a person may be becoming independent and may be starting to build their own lives but there are people that are not ready and stilll rely on family for support.
